The short version: there is no account and no tracking. Your stations, settings and location stay on your phone. From version 1.2.0 the app sends anonymous usage counts to our own server, described below.
Your favorite stations, chosen units, and alert settings are stored on your device only, in storage the app shares with its widget. They are not uploaded. The tide engine runs entirely on-device. The app's only network requests are the purchase flow and the anonymous usage counts, both described below.
If you allow it, Ebb uses your location while you're using the app (when-in-use) for a single purpose: to sort the station list by distance so the nearest tide stations float to the top. That reading is used once, in the moment, on your device. It is never stored and never transmitted. Deny the permission and Ebb works fine — you'll just search or scroll for your station instead.
Ebb sends anonymous usage events to our own server (growth.tundra.industries, run by Tundra Industries on Cloudflare) so we can see which features are used. No third-party analytics service is involved. Each event is one of these:
Each batch of events also carries: a random install ID created by the app (not your Apple ID, not the advertising identifier), the app version and build, iOS version, device model (for example iPhone17,1), language and region setting, time zone setting, the App Store country, and whether the app is a release, TestFlight or development build. Our server records the approximate country, region and city that Cloudflare derives from the connection; the IP address itself is not stored. On first launch on a real device the app also sends Apple’s AdServices attribution token, which tells us only whether the install came from an Apple Search Ads campaign.
Usage counts never include which stations you favorite or check, station names, your GPS location, dates you look at, or anything you type. They are not linked to your identity and are not used for advertising or tracking. Raw events are kept for up to 400 days. Cloudflare hosts the server; see cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
The one-time unlock is processed by Apple and, on our side, by RevenueCat (our purchase infrastructure), which receives a random device identifier so the app can remember your purchase is valid and restore it later. It receives none of your data — not your location, not your stations, nothing you do in the app. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Delete the app and everything Ebb stored goes with it — favorites, settings, scheduled alerts, all of it. Anonymous usage events are deleted after 400 days; they are not tied to you, so we cannot look up yours.
Ebb is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
